Join us on Tuesday, April 16, 2024, as we kick off the Project Finance Modelling course. The training will run for eight sessions at three and a half hours each (4 days' worth) and will cover the unique attributes that define and distinguish project finance. The total course price displayed is inclusive of applicable HST.

Course Objectives

This course will give you a hands-on practical opportunity to complete a Wind Farm financing model. With a focus on instructional best practices, this course will cover key project finance concepts such as risk transfer, debt and equity sizing, cash flows and reserves and many more. This course will give you the tools to feel confident to succeed in project finance.

  • How to efficiently structure a model and related components with a focus on tab order and layout, model schedules, the model audit tab, and periodicity / granularity considerations. 
  • The implementation of a version control system, including input and scenario management.
  • Techniques to model timing & indexation, advanced date functions and binary / flag modelling structures.
  • How to model the construction period including capital costs, interest during construction, and interim / Substantial Completion payments.
  • Elements of the funding requirement including sources & uses, circularities, and dynamically linking to original data files with active refresh.
  • Types of financing sources & profiles, covering Bond debt, Bank debt and equity.
  • A review of depreciation including building efficient and compact depreciation pools.
  • How to model the operations period covering revenues, expenses and calculating Cash Flows Available for Debt Service (CFADS).
  • How to apply a Cashflow Waterfall to clearly calculate and depict the priority of cash flows post-funding requirement.
  • A review of Taxes, specifically tax-loss carry forwards.
  • How to size debt & equity, including sculpted debt repayment profiles.
  • What is model circularity and the pros and cons of Excel iteration / circuit breakers, as well as the use of macros / VBA. 
  • Elements of reserve accounts, including Debt Service Reserve Account (DSRA), Major Maintenance Reserve Account (MMRA), and Equity Lock-Up Accounts.
  • How to use advanced VBA techniques such as copy-paste macros, and scenario saving / loading. 
  • Financial statements & outputs, with a focus on the income statement, balance sheet and equity Internal Rate of Return (IRR).
