Course Overview

General Data Management and Analysis (GDMA) consists of three parts (delivered over three days). You can complete each of the parts independently of one another. We suggest the course is completed in its entirety (all three days) to build up your knowledge and skills of the course materials.

Course Objectives - Part 3

Part 3 of the GDMA course will leverage the new Excel functionality covering Excel Data Model, Power Query, Dynamic Array and Lambda - to efficiently link and manipulate multiple data sets without altering the original sources, reference and return multiple cells within single-cell formulas, and define their own function for frequently-used formulas.

Prerequisites:
Highly recommended to complete Part 1 and Part 2 of GDMA prior to taking Part 3.

Experienced Excel users who often work with multiple data sets on a recurring basis.

What you will learn:

  • A review of the new excel functionality as of January 2021 that will improve your modelling. 
  • How to use Excel Data Model and dynamically combine multiple data sets, as well as cover unique identifiers, mapping fields and active refresh.
  • A review of Power Query, including the history of Excel's "Get and Transform Data," linking multiple data sources, transform / combine / format the data and active refresh.
  • How to use and apply dynamic arrays, spill ranges, graphing and other uses.
  • A walkthrough of the new "Dynamic Array" functions - XLOOKUP(), SORT(), UNIQUE(), FILTER().
  • A review of Lambda, including the proper use, defining a formula and naming.
